7 Things to Know About the New Jane Austen Adaptation, ‘Love & Friendship’

Posted on May 12, 2016 by

A brand new, never-adapted-for-screen Jane Austen film is making its way to cinemas.

Love & Friendship is based on Lady Susan, an early Austen novel published posthumously in 1871. The film stars actresses Kate Beckinsale and Chloë Sevigny, and is written and directed by Whit Stillman. It centers on Lady Susan Vernon (Beckinsale), a scheming widow keen to find a wealthy husband for her reluctant daughter, Frederica (Morfydd Clark), and hoping to find herself some new men to play with in the process.

Even die-hard Austen fans aren’t hugely familiar with Lady Susan, so here are some things you should expect from Love & Friendship.
