Jodi Picoult fans will be thrilled with the news that her most recent novel, Small Great Things, is being adapted for film — and getting some award-winning actresses to star. Deadline reports that Viola Davis and Julia Roberts will appear in the upcoming adaptation. Their roles have not yet been announced.
Called “the most important novel Jodi Picoult has ever written” by the Washington Post, Small Great Things examines race relations in a Connecticut community. The plot centers around Ruth Jefferson, a black nurse who is instructed not to touch a white couple’s baby. When the baby dies in Ruth’s care, however, a lawsuit follows, and public defender Kennedy McQuarrie is put on the case.
A screenwriter for Small Great Things has not yet been named, but the film will be produced by Marc Platt (La La Land) and Adam Siegel.
