Say it ain’t so, Outlander fans! Unfortunately, the drought will last a little bit longer, and we will have to wait (and wait and wait) to get another glimpse of Jamie and Claire Fraser. Starz announced today that the show won’t debut its third season until September.
“While Droughtlander will last just a little longer, we feel it is important to allow the production the time and number of episodes needed to tell the story of the Voyager book in its entirety,” Starz President of Programming Carmi Zlotnik said in a statement, explaining the push to fall. “The scale of this book is immense, and we owe the fans the very best show. Returning in September will make that possible.”
Meanwhile, in a video featured on the Outlander Facebook page, actors Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe say goodbye to Scotland and get excited about heading to sunny South Africa to continue their adventures.
Season three of the show will be based on Voyager, the third of eight books in Diana Gabaldon’s bestselling series. Production on the show resumes in Cape Town in March and is expected to wrap up in June.
The new season will begin after Claire returns to her life in 1948. While she resumes her marriage to Frank and gives birth to Jamie’s daughter, Brianna, Jamie is back in the 18th century, suffering the loss of his beloved Claire and the aftermath of the Battle of Culloden.
It looks like we’ll have to suffer along with him for a while.
