What if the magical worlds of J.K. Rowling, C. S. Lewis, and J.R.R. Tolkien came to life in a pub? This team wants to make it happen. The Cauldron Wizarding Pub & Inn is seeking to raise $500,000 on crowdfunding platform Kickstarter to open a magical pub and tech lab in London.
Creator Matthew Cortland’s goal is to encourage fantasy book lovers to help create “magic” through technology. “The Cauldron is our chance to grant the wish of every wizarding fan,” the former reading teacher said in a press release.
Cortland imagines the bar and inn decked out with magical items straight from your favorite novels, such as floating candles, fire and lights controlled by wands, and moving photos. Food and drinks will be inspired by magical books, and if there’s enough funding for an inn, those rooms will contain fantastical elements as well.
“Every aspect of the pub will be designed so that the more you know about these sources and their roots, the more you’ll take from your experience,” Cortland says in a video.
The magic won’t really be magic, of course, and will rely heavily on technology such as magnetism, voice controls, and touch-sensitive surfaces. Cortland’s team hopes to host Wizarding Hackathons in cities around the world to allow fans to get hands on with the magic used in the pub.
In line with its literary inspiration, visitors to The Cauldron will be encouraged to bring a copy of their favorite book to be donated to a classroom in need through partnership with the Harry Potter Alliance’s Accio Books Campaign.
“Magic is real and you can be a part of it. Please support this project,” urges Cortland.
The Cauldron Kickstarter project launches on June 26 and will conclude on July 31. Visit their website for more details.
