All aboard for a classic whodunit! 20th Century Fox has released the first official trailer for its Murder on the Orient Express adaptation, and it’s a stunning, atmospheric snapshot of what we can expect from the movie. Based on the novel of the same title by legendary mystery author Agatha Christie, this first trailer will certainly get mystery lovers excited for the film’s fall release. Check it out below:
Kenneth Branagh both directs and stars in Murder on the Orient Express, playing Christie’s renowned Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot. In addition to Branagh in the lead, this new adaptation features an all-star cast, which will certainly help it compete with its 1974 predecessor. Michelle Pfeiffer plays American widow Mrs. Hubbard; Judi Dench stars as Russian Princess Natalia Dragomiroff and Olivia Coleman plays her loyal maid Hildegarde Schmidt; Willem Dafoe is the German professor Gerhard Hardman; Daisy Ridley stars as the governess Mary Debenham; Penelope Cruz is Spanish missionary Pilar Estravados; and Johnny Depp is the doomed Edward Ratchett.
In the trailer, we get a look at each of the passengers onboard the locomotive, and Branagh narrates.“My name is Hercule Poirot,” he says. “And I’m probably the greatest detective in the world.” Branagh has some big shoes to fill in his portrayal of Poirot, a role made famous by actor David Suchet on the long-running British television series Agatha Christie’s Poirot.
In Christie’s 1934 mystery, an extravagant train expedition across Europe is halted by a snowdrift, and Poirot is called upon to investigate the fatal stabbing of a passenger. “If there was a murder, then there was a murderer,” Branagh says in the trailer. “The murderer is with us… and every one of you is a suspect.”
Murder on the Orient Express arrives in theaters on November 10.
