Earlier this week, fans of Madeleine L’Engle’s A Wrinkle in Time were treated to their first glimpse at the brand-new adaptation, and today, Disney has released the first A Wrinkle in Time trailer. Watch it below:

The film, based on L’Engle’s award-winning 1962 children’s classic, follows Meg Murry, played by Storm Reid, as she embarks on the journey of a lifetime to save her father, a scientist who’s played by Chris Pine. The sci-fi adventure brings Meg through space and time — and into the path of an eccentric supernatural trio named Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which, played by A-listers Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, and Oprah Winfrey, respectively.

Deric McCabe also stars in the film as Charles Wallace and Levi Miller plays Calvin O’Keefe.

A Wrinkle in Time is directed by Ava DuVernay, an award-winning director known for projects such as Selma and the recent documentary 13th. According to the Los Angeles Times, her role in A Wrinkle in Time makes DuVernay the first black woman to direct a film with a budget over $100 million. DuVernay tweeted about the milestone last summer:

In an interview with Collider, DuVernay spoke about having a diverse cast for A Wrinkle in Time:

“It’s just a classic story, the kind of legacy of the book, and fans who love it and when you hear about why for such personal reasons. It’s a story with a girl at the center — a girl who time travels, travels the universe in search of someone she loves, her father, and in the process she finds herself. Kids fly and to ask Disney, ‘Could these be brown kids?’ and for them to say yes I was like, ‘Let’s do it.’”

Also involved in the project is Jennifer Lee, the Oscar-winning screenwriter and director behind the hit Disney film Frozen. Lee wrote the adaptation for the A Wrinkle in Time movie.

The cast tweeted their excitement for the first A Wrinkle in Time trailer on Saturday. Here’s what Witherspoon and Winfrey had to say:

A Wrinkle in Time is set to hit theaters on March 9, 2018.
