Watch the New Trailer for Stephen King’s ‘It’

The first full-length trailer for the upcoming film adaptation of Stephen King’s It has been released, and it’s even more chilling than the first one. Take a deep breath, and watch the new It trailer below:

The new It trailer features the horrifying imagery we remember from the first trailer, including Georgie chasing his paper boat along the gutter and coming face-to-face with the evil that lurks in the storm drain. The new trailer also features disturbing new scenes with Georgie’s older brother, Bill, and his friends who encounter the various evil apparitions that flit in the darkness. The trailer starts with a voiceover that sets the creepy scene:

“When you’re a kid, you think the universe revolves around you. You think that you’ll always be protected and cared for. Then, one day, you realize that’s not true. Because when you’re alone as a kid, the monsters see you as weaker. You don’t even know they’re getting closer… until it’s too late.”

Based on King’s 1986 bestselling horror classicIt tells the story of the evil lurking in the town of Derry, Maine, and a group of friends known as the Losers’ Club who encounter this unknown, unnamed horror. The evil entity terrorizes the kids by embodying their worst fears, including a demonic clown named Pennywise whose presence is often announced by a red balloon. “You’ll float too, you’ll float too,” Georgie’s apparition tells Bill in the trailer, which is enough to send chills up the spine of even the most stoic King fans.

Directed by Andrés Muschietti (Mama), It will be R-rated and seems destined to be even more terrifying than its 1990 TV predecessor. Bill Skarsgård (Allegiant, Atomic Blonde) will play the iconic Pennywise, previously played by Tim Curry.

While this film adaption focuses only on the kids, fans of the hefty novel will be thrilled to know that a second It film is in the works and set to begin filming next year, featuring the children as adults returning to Derry to battle Pennywise again.

Stephen King fans have a lot to be excited about this year, with several film and TV adaptations of the author’s work in addition to It, including a TV adaptation of The Mist, another TV adaptation of Mr. Mercedes, and a film adaptation of the Dark Tower series. All three are out this summer.

It comes to the big screen on September 8.
