Outlander season 3, adapted from the third book, Voyager, in Diana Gabaldon‘s bestselling series, airs September 10 on STARZ, and fans everywhere are excited for what’s in store. The cast and crew have done a great job building up suspense and excitement among viewers by sharing excellent behind-the-scenes images from the set. We’ve rounded up some of our favorite Outlander season 3 photos below.

1. Tattered actors on the set for the Battle of Culloden.

Shared by Outlander on Instagram, Tobias Menzies and Sam Heughan are seen here gearing up for the Battle of Culloden, the catastrophic event the first two seasons of Outlander had been leading up to for.


 2. A solemn Caitriona Balfe walks through the set.

Season 3 will follow Claire’s life with Frank Randall in the 20th-century, as she lives under the impression that Jamie died at Culloden. Here, we see Balfe on set in Glasgow.


3. Who’s ready for the print shop scene?!

Shared by one of the show’s writers and executive producers, Matthew B. Roberts, this is the script for the highly-anticipated print shop scene in which Jamie and Claire reunite.

4. Jamie and Claire, finally reunited, set sail for their next journey

This Instagram photo depicts Balfe and Heughan on the last day of filming season 3.


5. A bird’s-eye view of the Outlander set in South Africa.

The cast and crew traveled to South Africa to film part of the third season. In Voyager, these scenes take place in Jamaica, and the set, shown above, was transformed to look like the Caribbean island.


6. Here’s a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the stars’ Entertainment Weekly photo shoot.

8. Jamie sure is ready for a new adventure.

The Outlander team shared an Instagram photo of Heughan that will intrigue fans! Some may remember that Jamie gets seasick — how will he handle the long ocean crossing ahead of him?


9. Balfe and Heughan stand on opposite sides of time in this season 3 teaser.

Here, the stars pose for the official Outlander season 3 poster, representing the overall direction of the season, in which Claire and Jamie are separated by time and struggling to live without each other.


10. Here’s another scene from the Battle of Culloden that reflects the event that forever changed Scottish history.

Shared by Matthew B. Roberts, this scene captures the horror and devastation of the battle.


11. An aerial shot of how the battle was orchestrated on set.

The contrast of the serene scenery against the chaos of battle is symbolic of how it disrupts Scottish life, as well as Jamie and Claire’s lives for years to come.


12. What are Jamie and Claire running from?

Chris Saint-Martin caught Balfe and Heughan filming at Dunure, a small Scottish village, last fall. What new problem are they tangled in this time?!


13. Let’s not forget Fergus, who has grown up quite a bit since we last saw him.

Fergus stays with Jamie through thick and thin, and season 3 will prove he’s grown up to be a handsome lad, played by Cesar Domboy.


14. Here’s a glimpse of Menzies filming as Frank in Glasgow.

Frank will be an important part of season 3: The show will take a closer look into his relationship with Claire after her unexpected return back to him in the 20th-century.


15. Menzies snuggles the baby who plays newborn Brianna.

In season 2, Frank was furious when he learned that Claire was pregnant by another man’s child, but he vowed to raise Brianna as his own. Season 3 will explore more of this tense dynamic as the pair raises Brianna in Boston.


16. David Berry, a.k.a Lord John Grey, is ready to battle at a moment’s notice.

We were introduced to Lord John Grey towards the end of the second season, but in Voyager and future novels, he will play a big role in Claire and Jamie’s lives.


17. Richard Rankin is back as Roger!

Roger will play a bigger role in Claire and Bree’s lives in the third season.



18. And finally, here’s the cast’s last day of filming.

Heughan shared this shot of him riding away after wrapping season 3. The countdown for September 10 has begun!
