J.K. Rowling penned the script for the first film, which centers on Newt Scamander, a “magizoologist” who cares for magical creatures and unwittingly finds his fantastic beasts unleashed all over 1920s New York. In the second film, we’ll see Grindelwald’s rise to power across several cities, including Paris and London.
The Fantastic Beasts franchise will include five films total. Although Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald doesn’t release until next year, there is a lot we already know about it, including plot details and new cast members. Eddie Redmayne will again play Newt in the sequel, partnering with Dumbledore to take down Grindelwald.
Other actors reprising their roles from the first movie include Katherine Waterston as Tina Goldstein and Alison Sudol as her sister Queenie, Dan Fogler as No-Maj Jacob Kowalski, Carmen Ejogo as Magical Congress of the United States President Seraphina Picquery, Ezra Miller as Credence Barebone, and Zoë Kravitz as Leta Lestrange.
