Published in 2011, A Discovery of Witches marks the first installment in Harkness’s bestselling All Souls trilogy. The series centers on Diana Bishop, an Oxford professor and descendent of a powerful family of witches. Bishop tries to repress her magical abilities until meeting Matthew Clairmont, a dashing, 1,500-year-old vampire. When the pair finds a long-lost manuscript in the library, they team up on a high-stakes adventure into a magical underworld.

The trailer reveals a first look at some of these pivotal moments, including the couple’s first run-in at the Bodleian library. Check out the Discovery of Witches trailer below, courtesy of Sky One:

Harkness officially announced the adaptation and initial casting details on her blog in August 2017. Australian actress Teresa Palmer (Hacksaw Ridge) will play Diana Bishop, who Harkness calls “brilliant” and promises, “Once you see her as Diana Bishop, you’re never going to be able to picture anyone else in this role.” Opposite Palmer, Matthew Goode will assume the role of Matthew Clairmont. Goode is best known for his roles in Downton Abbey and The Imitation Game.

Production will be lead by former Doctor Who producers Julie Gardner and Jane Tranter, and Juan Carlos Medina will direct, according to Variety. Kate Brooke (Mr. Selfridge), a fellow Oxford graduate, will adapt the script. Harkness praised Brooke’s abilities, adding “I’ve learned so much about screenwriting working with Kate, and it’s been such a privilege to have her on the project. ”

The series will air on Sky One in the U.K. in 2018. Broadcast details for the US have yet to be released.
