Fantastic Outlander Golden Globes news: Caitriona Balfe, who plays leading lady Claire, has once again been nominated for the category of Best Actress in a Television Drama!
The Starz adaptation, based on Diana Gabaldon‘s bestselling series, tells the story of Claire Randall, a married English nurse who travels from 1945 to 1743 Scotland. She is then forced to marry handsome Highlander Jamie Fraser, whom she falls in love with — splitting her heart, and life, in two. Caitriona Balfe has received much praise for her portrayal of Claire — and she was also recently nominated for a Critics’ Choice Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series. This is her third Outlander Golden Globe nomination, as she was nominated in the 2016 and 2017 award seasons.
Actor Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser, was not nominated this year. However, he still took to Twitter to celebrate his co-star’s nomination, much like he did in a sweet message last year. Check out Heughan’s tweet below:
Two years ago, in the 2016 award season, Outlander was nominated for Best Television Drama Series. Tobias Menzies, who plays both Claire’s husband back home, Frank Randall, and the villain Jonathan “Black Jack” Randall, was also nominated that year in the category of Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series.
Though the show itself was not nominated for a Golden Globe this year, it continues to be a success, earning more viewers this season than any other. The third season finale aired on December 10, and fans are already excited to see what’s in store for Jamie and Claire in season four.
The 75th Golden Globe Awards will air Sunday, January 7, on NBC. Keep your fingers crossed that this year Caitriona Balfe takes home a much-deserved award!
