With 2018 in full swing, fans are gearing up for the highly-anticipated second season of The Handmaid’s Tale, set to premiere this spring. Now, we finally have an in-depth look at the show’s upcoming season in this brand-new trailer. Check out the The Handmaid’s Tale season 2 trailer below:
While the show’s first season closely followed Margaret Atwood’s classic novel, fans have been left guessing at what could transpire in season 2.
The trailer shows much of The Handmaid’s Tale season 1 cast returning, including Elisabeth Moss as Offred, Jospeh Fiennes as the Commander, and Yvonne Strahovski as his wife, Serena Joy. Samira Wiley also returns in her role as Offred’s best friend Moira, and O-T Fagbenle, Offred’s husband whom Offred hasn’t seen since taking her role as a handmaid, is back as well. Finally, the trailer also shows Janine (Madeline Brewer), who is facing a death sentence after attempting suicide in season 1, as well as an unusually distraught Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd).
Among these familiar faces are more horrifying looks at the dystopian world they’re all living in. In The Handmaid’s Tale season 2 trailer, fans get to see more of the Colonies, the wasteland where those exiled from Gilead live, as well as more of Gilead itself. Showrunner Bruce Miller told Entertainment Weekly:
“These scenes that are so beautiful, while set in such a terrible place, provide the kind of contrast that makes me happy.”
As for the specific plot, details are minimal, but producers promise more storylines about those who have escaped Gilead. Fans are also looking to Atwood’s recently released alternative audiobook ending, which provides a few insights into Offred’s future.
The Handmaid’s Tale adaptation continues to build buzz this year, winning two Golden Globes earlier this month on top of its Emmy wins last fall.
The Handmaid’s Tale season 2 is set to premiere April 25 on Hulu.
