The new trailer for The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society movie adaptation is here, and it’s delicious! Watch the Guernesy trailer below:
Based on the New York Times bestseller by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows, the film has been highly anticipated by fans who were captivated by the romantic historical drama. Set during the German occupation in World War II, the novel centers around the experiences of Juliet Ashton, a young writer who develops a life-changing relationship with the eccentric members of a book club.
The StudioCanal project is directed by Mike Newell (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) and features Lily James of Downton Abbey fame in the role of the spirited and determined Juliet. She is joined by several other members of the Downton Abbey cast, including Matthew Goode as Sidney Stark, Jessica Brown Findlay as Elizabeth McKenna, and Penelope Wilton as Amelia Maugery. Other members of the Guernsey cast include Michiel Huisman (The Age of Adaline) as Juliet’s love interest Dawsey Adams, Glen Powell (Hidden Figures) as Mark Reynolds, Tom Courtenay (45 Years), and Katherine Parkinson as Isola Pribby.
Filmed largely in Devon, UK, the trailer features beautiful island vistas, as well as Juliet’s interactions with the Guernsey residents. Scenes of the horror of the Nazi occupation are balanced by the romance and humor, including Juliet’s first taste of the notorious potato peel pie.
“If books do have the power to bring people together, this one may work its magic,” Juliet muses in the Guernsey trailer.
A US release date hasn’t been announced yet, but The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society movie lands in the UK on April 20.
