Watch the First Trailer for HBO’s ‘Fahrenheit 451’ Adaptation

Last year, we shared the exciting news that HBO was adapting Ray Bradbury‘s Fahrenheit 451 into a TV movie. This powerful dystopian tale tells the story of fireman Guy Montag, whose primary job is destroying the books his society considers illegal and dangerous contraband. HBO has released the first trailer for the Fahrenheit 451 movie, and we can’t wait to see this adaptation of Ray Bradbury’s iconic classic. Take a look for yourself below:

Michael B. Jordan (Black Panther) plays the protagonist Guy Montag, a young fireman who begins to question his role as a law enforcer in this book-burning society. Michael Shannon (The Shape of Water) plays Captain Beatty, Montag’s driven fire captain and mentor. “Do you want to know what’s inside?” he intones in the trailer. “Insanity. Chaos.”

The teaser trailer is filled with eerie imagery of fire and destruction that captures Bradbury’s grim view of the future. His novel has captivated readers since 1953 and  is considered one of his finest works, with the novel’s title coming from the temperature at which paper burns. “We’re not born equal, so we must be made equal by the fire,” Shannon’s character Beatty explains in the trailer. Jordan responds, “I want to burn.”

This Fahrenheit 451 adaptation is co-written by Ramin Bahrani and Amir Naderi, and Bahrani also directs and is an executive producer. Bahrani shared with the Hollywood Reporter.

“It was daunting to take on Bradbury because he’s such a genius and a legend. Me and so many people love his work. When you do an adaptation, you’re going to change things. I knew I would upset somebody. I tried to stay true to the themes, even if I changed certain characters and plot lines. To take them and modernize them. It wasn’t easy.”

The film also stars Sofia Boutella (Atomic Blonde) as Clarisse, Lilly Singh as Raven, Laura Harrier (Spider-Man: Homecoming) as Guy’s wife Millie Montag, Keir Dullea, Martin Donovan, Grace Lynn Kung, and Jane Moffat.

Fahrenheit 451 debuts on HBO in May.
