Jodi Picoult fans will be thrilled to learn that the bestselling author has announced a brand-new novel. Centered on a shooting at a health clinic, the new Jodi Picoult book is titled A Spark of Light and will be released on October 2.
According to Picoult’s website, A Spark of Light begins with a gunman opening fire in a women’s reproductive health clinic. Each successive chapter then moves backwards an hour earlier in time, showing the lives of the medical center staff, the female patients, the shooter, and a hostage negotiator outside the building — and the complicated ways their lives intersect.
Although the final cover for A Spark of Light has not yet been released, Picoult shared a picture of herself holding the manuscript:
A #1 New York Times bestselling author of 24 novels, Picoult has been praised by critics and fans alike for her stories, which feature timely tragedies or moral dilemmas that bring her characters face-to-face with love and loss. Her most popular books include The Storyteller, Nineteen Minutes, Leaving Time, My Sister’s Keeper, and The Pact.
Picoult’s most recent novel, Small Great Things is currently being adapted into a film starring Viola Davis and Julia Roberts. Tackling race in a Connecticut community, Small Great Things is about an African American labor and delivery nurse, Ruth, who is told not to touch a newborn by the baby’s white supremacist parents. The baby then slips into cardiac arrest the following day, and Ruth is thrust into a legal case and the media spotlight for not performing CPR immediately on the child. The book was called “the most important novel Jodi Picoult has ever written” by The Washington Post.
